Dewalt has recently entered the market with its new next – generation 20V Max XR cordless power tools. This exciting launch includes a 7 – 1/4″ circular saw, reciprocating saw, hammer drill, and impact driver. Having put the entire line, along with the new XR batteries, through rigorous testing, I’m here to share a brief overview.
Tools in the Spotlight
Cordless Hammer Drill (DCD1007)
This hammer drill represents an evolutionary upgrade from Dewalt’s previous models. In my testing, it demonstrated a significant leap in power. The Anti – Rotation feature worked flawlessly, and I didn’t encounter any drawbacks during use.
Impact Driver (DCF860)
The DCF860 impact driver is a standout performer. It boasts Dewalt’s highest torque within the 20V Max platform, with a maximum torque of 2500 in – lbs, a speed of 4500 IPM, and a three – speed mode select.
Speed Settings: Speeds 1 and 2 are well – suited for self – drilling and tapping screws, while speed 3 unlocks maximum performance. It offers a wide speed range of 0 – 1800 / 0 – 2500 / 0 – 3800 RPM.
Design and Balance: Surprisingly, it’s well – balanced when paired with all XR batteries, even the PowerPack 8Ah battery that it comes with. This balance enhances its usability and ease of handling.
Additional Features: It has a length of 4.8″, weighs only 2.4 lbs without a battery, and is equipped with 9 – LED lights that offer a 20 – minute worklight mode. It’s also Tool Connect Chip Ready (sold separately).
Reciprocating Saw (DCS384)
Both of Dewalt’s new brushless saws, including the reciprocating saw, have shown high – performance levels in my testing. They seem to embody the best that modern 18V – class cordless power tools can offer.
Circular Saw (DCS590)
Similar to the reciprocating saw, the circular saw also delivered excellent performance. It met and exceeded my expectations in terms of cutting power and precision.
Performance with XR Batteries
One of the most remarkable aspects of these new tools is their compatibility with the latest XR batteries. The PowerPack 8Ah battery, in particular, takes the performance of the impact driver to new heights. Even when driving larger construction fasteners, the impact driver was surprisingly speedy and a joy to use.
I highly recommend having a PowerPack 8Ah battery in your kit, or at the very least, a PowerStack 5Ah battery. These batteries not only enhance the power and runtime of the tools but also contribute to a more seamless and efficient user experience.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Dewalt’s new XR series cordless power tools are a significant step forward in the cordless power tool market. Each tool offers unique features and high – performance capabilities, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. When paired with the latest XR batteries, these tools truly shine, delivering the power and reliability needed for professional – grade work. Whether you’re a contractor or a DIY enthusiast, these tools are definitely worth considering for your next project.
