Barnet Plans Major Expansion of On-Street EV Charging Infrastructure

by Harry

Barnet Council has announced plans to install up to 1,000 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the borough. This move will greatly expand Barnet’s EV charging infrastructure.

The rollout will happen in two phases. The first phase will see 500 chargers installed over the next three months. The remaining 500 chargers are scheduled for installation within the next three years.

The project is a partnership with UK charge point operator char.gy. Funding comes from nearly £800,000 provided by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles’ On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), which covers 60% of the cost. Char.gy will provide the remaining investment. Importantly, the scheme will cost the council nothing.

Barnet currently leads all London boroughs in public EV charging demand, with 143 MWh recorded, according to Field Dynamics.
