Metabo has long been a respected name in the tool industry, with a remarkable track record in the field. While in Ohio and most of North America, they are mainly known for their grinders and cut – off wheels, the situation is quite different globally. Elsewhere, Metabo is renowned for some of the best rotary hammers and has a battery platform shared by numerous other companies, featuring some of the most innovative technology available.
To introduce more professional tradespeople in our area to the Metabo Cordless System, we’ve partnered to offer an aggressive deal on the Metabo 18V KHA 18 LXT BL rotary hammers.
The Metabo 18V KHA 18 LXT BL 24 Quick SDS – Plus Hammer
Recently, Rob Robillard from Tool Box Buzz did an in – depth walkthrough of this rotary hammer drill, which you can check out in the video above. This isn’t the largest or most powerful cordless SDS – Plus hammer on the market; it wasn’t designed to be. However, its integrated HEPA vac design, with a 5/8” capacity, makes it an excellent choice for overhead drilling and anchoring.
It is lightweight yet powerful, perfect for these types of applications. Moreover, it can handle up to a 1” capacity without the HEPA vac when necessary.
One standout feature that differentiates this hammer from competitors like those from Red, Yellow, and Teal is the SDS – Plus head. It can actually be removed and replaced with a substantial ½” chuck. This chuck can accommodate standard shank carbide bits, which might be required in certain situations, or more commonly, wood boring bits or hole saws. There are times when you need to drill through wood or metal first and then into concrete. Having this option would be extremely useful. Even if the need doesn’t arise frequently, it’s always nice to have an additional heavy – duty cordless drill option for large auger bits or self – feed bits. Instead of reaching for a standard drill/driver, this powerful tool can handle the job.
The Metabo Cordless 18V Platform
Although the Metabo 18V cordless platform has a relatively small share of the USA cordless tool market, this isn’t due to a lack of performance. In fact, Metabo has been at the forefront of battery technology for over five years. They were the first to launch 4.0Ah and then 5.0Ah batteries. They also pioneered the use of 20700 cells and were among the first to adopt 21700 cells for their batteries, which are currently used in their LiHD 4.0Ah and 8.0Ah batteries.
However, the relatively high price point and their commitment to maintaining quality without compromising to meet big – box price targets have limited their market share in the USA to mostly professional users.
Another significant aspect of Metabo’s strategy is their Cordless Alliance System (CAS). Launched in late 2018, this system allows other manufacturers to use the Metabo battery platform. Companies such as Mafell, Collomix, Eibenstock, Starmix, and Rothenberger are already part of this universal battery platform.
Rather than trying to be all things to all people, Metabo has enabled other manufacturers to create their own specialized cordless tools using Metabo batteries. For example, Starmix, which has a history of making vacuums for well – known brands like Metabo, Makita, Fein, Hilit, and Bosch, can now produce their own cordless vacuums. Mafell can focus on making track saws and specialty tools.
Although only a limited number of cordless tools from these partner manufacturers have reached the USA so far, they are being mass – produced for global use. We believe this strategy will pay off in the coming years, as we can expect to see more high – end cordless tools that will eventually become available in the US and Canada.
