Toronto-based SWTCH Energy has launched a new anti-theft and vandalism security solution designed to safeguard EV charging infrastructure in multi-unit residential and commercial buildings. This move comes in response to a spike in charging station vandalism and cable theft, which has raised concerns for property managers and EV drivers alike.
The newly introduced system features:
- Compact surveillance cameras
- 180-degree wide-angle monitoring
- Motion-activated lighting and deterrents
- 24/7 remote monitoring
- AI-driven virtual security guard functionality
“Property managers need reliable tools to stay ahead of these risks and maintain consistent charging access,” said Carter Li, CEO of SWTCH Energy.
The AI-based technology enables proactive threat detection, helping reduce downtime, prevent financial loss, and enhance driver trust in the EV charging ecosystem—especially in dense urban housing developments.
This initiative underscores the growing need to harden EV infrastructure as electric vehicle adoption rises, particularly in settings where shared resources and unattended equipment are most vulnerable.
