Electric vehicle (EV) charging company EasyGo has partnered with Ireland’s Department of Transport to launch a pilot programme aimed at expanding public access to EV charging points by encouraging homeowners to share their private chargers.
The initiative, backed by €140,000 in funding, seeks to address one of the key barriers to EV adoption—limited access to off-street parking and private home chargers, especially in urban and densely populated areas.
Under the pilot, EasyGo will install home EV chargers free of charge for selected participants. Homeowners can then make their chargers accessible to neighbours and the wider public through the EasyGo platform, receiving payments in return for shared use.
The programme will initially be rolled out in select locations, including Stoneybatter and Phibsborough in Dublin, Kilcock in County Kildare, and Dingle in County Kerry. These areas were chosen to represent a mix of urban, commuter, and rural settings.
By incentivising private charger sharing, the pilot aims to increase charging options for EV users without off-street parking and to support Ireland’s transition to cleaner transport.
