Balance Power, a UK renewables developer, has received planning approval for a 30-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.
This is the company’s second project approval this month, following a recent go-ahead for a 29.9-MW battery project in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
The new facility will include 12 battery units designed to balance the intermittent energy supply from renewables and help expand clean energy use. The system will store enough electricity to power approximately 16,225 homes for two hours and reduce carbon emissions by over 11,000 tonnes.
The Rochdale BESS is planned for commissioning in 2028. After its operational life, the site will be decommissioned and restored to its original state.
