Iroquois Gas Transmission Awaits Final Permit to Expand Compressor Station Near Brookfield School
Iroquois Gas Transmission System is one step away from starting a major expansion project. The company still needs one final permit — an air permit — for its proposed natural gas compressor station expansion located just 1,900 feet from Whisonier Middle School in Brookfield, Connecticut.
The permit is currently under review by Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Once approved, construction can begin in both New York and Connecticut.
Bianca Sanchez, associate press secretary for the Sierra Club, a nonprofit opposing the project due to environmental concerns, highlighted that this air permit is the last obstacle before the project moves forward.
