Workrise has announced a new exclusive licensing agreement to distribute Shell’s advanced U-lateral drilling technology to energy companies across the United States.
The U-lateral technique, developed by Shell, allows operators to drill more reservoir footage each month. This reduces the cost per foot of reservoir accessed and lowers the cost per barrel of oil produced. The result is a 50% increase in the production capacity of each surface rig, helping companies save both time and money.
In addition to boosting efficiency, U-lateral drilling provides access to previously unreachable land, allowing operators to make better use of their acreage. It also reduces environmental impact when compared to traditional well designs.
“As the leading source-to-pay platform for the energy sector, Workrise is in a strong position to introduce this breakthrough technology,” said Adam Hirschfeld, Senior Vice President at Workrise. “Energy operators can now license U-lateral drilling on a per-well basis through Workrise, with simple integration into their current purchasing systems. Our team will manage all program contracts and administration, making it easy to adopt.”
The deal marks a significant expansion in Workrise’s service offerings, which aim to help energy companies operate more efficiently amid ongoing industry challenges.
“We’re committed to helping the energy industry adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing environment,” Hirschfeld added. “By adding cutting-edge technology licensing to our services, we’re reinforcing that mission and supporting smarter, more sustainable operations.”
