Panorama Antennas, a family-run company based in London, has been making antennas for over 75 years.
Originally focused on radio and television antennas, the company now supplies technology for first responders, telecommunications, and enterprise use.
Their antennas are complex electronic devices, not just simple metal rods with wires. Building them requires many screws, and installing these fasteners by hand is repetitive and slow. Automating this task with a robot would increase production speed, improve quality, reduce injuries, and allow skilled workers to focus on more complex jobs.
Mark Jesman, operations and supply director at Panorama Antennas, said, “We introduced a robotic arm to improve quality by ensuring consistent, repetitive assembly. It also lets us move assembly workers to higher-skilled tasks like soldering, connector assembly, and RF testing.”
Panorama’s first step was to automate screw installation on a network antenna’s cover panel. To achieve this, they partnered with local robotics distributor Raruk Automation and systems integrator Vikaso, both based in England.
The company selected the UR5e collaborative robot arm from Universal Robots, paired with the Screwdriving Solution by Robotiq. Vikaso contributed its V-CAP URCap software and V-Eye remote monitoring system, which includes a camera for oversight.
This new setup is helping Panorama increase production efficiency while enhancing workplace safety and quality control.
