Oasa Robotics, a Chinese robotics startup, has officially shut down, founder Chang Li confirmed in an open letter.
The company faced numerous challenges, including team changes, manufacturing issues, and money problems.
Founded in 2022, Oasa raised nearly $14 million from investors like Lanchi VC and Bear Electric. Its main product, the Oasa R1 robotic lawn mower, launched on Kickstarter in 2024 and raised $2.3 million from about 1,800 backers.
However, excitement faded as production delays piled up and key features did not meet customer expectations. The R1 mower had a limited range, covering only 1,000 square meters. This made it unsuitable for large lawns in countries such as the US and Germany, where yards are much bigger.
Only a small number of Kickstarter orders were fulfilled. Recently, many customers complained on Kickstarter and social media about missed deliveries and a lack of communication. Additionally, Oasa’s Amazon sales page went offline earlier this month.
In the end, these issues forced Oasa Robotics to cease operations, marking a disappointing end for the once-promising startup.
