Starting in May, Elli, the electric mobility brand of the Volkswagen Group, will partner with UNITI, Germany’s national association of independent gas station operators, to bring EV charging directly to gas stations. The partnership aims to speed up the rollout of charging infrastructure at approximately 8,600 stations operated by UNITI members.
The collaboration will be formally announced at the upcoming Power2Drive trade event.
As part of the agreement, UNITI members will gain access to Elli’s modular package of products and services. This includes everything from site analysis and planning to the installation and operation of Flexpole chargers or other DC fast charging units. Elli will provide all hardware, software, and service support from a single source.
A key advantage of Elli’s Flexpole charger is its battery-buffered technology. This feature allows for quick installation without the need for major grid upgrades or heavy construction. It’s especially useful for gas stations that are leased or have limited power connections.
Another benefit of the partnership is increased visibility. Participating UNITI stations can be added to Elli’s “Selected Partner Network,” which will display their charging locations directly in the navigation systems of Volkswagen Group electric vehicles.
Elli CEO Giovanni Palazzo stated, “Our goal is to make charging as simple and accessible as possible. Together with UNITI, we’re bringing the right infrastructure to everyday locations. The Flexpole is ideal—it’s fast, durable, easy to install, and perfect for existing stations with limited grid capacity.”
