Mobis India, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor India, has launched its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery System Assembly (BSA) plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The facility was officially inaugurated by TRB Rajaa, the state’s Minister for Industries.
Situated on 8.15 acres next to Hyundai’s car manufacturing plant, the new assembly facility marks a significant milestone in India’s push toward electric mobility. Initially, the plant will produce 36,000 battery systems annually, with the capacity to scale up quickly to 75,000 units to meet growing demand.
The Sriperumbudur plant will assemble battery systems for Hyundai’s electric vehicles manufactured in India. The first model to feature these locally assembled battery packs will be the Hyundai Creta Electric.
Mobis India’s investment underscores Hyundai’s commitment to strengthening local EV production, aligning with India’s broader goals to become a major player in the global electric vehicle market.
