Honda has long been the industry standard for portable gas generators, renowned for their reliability and ease of use. In a bid to further optimize performance and safety, Honda has made significant upgrades to its entire generator lineup.
The Importance of Honda Generators
Honda generators have proven themselves time and again. They start more easily and with less hassle compared to other brands, even when sitting idle for extended periods. This reliability makes them a top choice for those who need power on demand.
CO – MINDER: A Game – Changer in Safety
What is CO – MINDER?
Honda is committed to safety across all its product lines. The CO – MINDER is an advanced carbon monoxide (CO) detection system. It continuously monitors CO levels. If the CO level exceeds 800 parts per million (ppm) at any point or 400 ppm over 10 minutes, the generator will automatically shut off. This feature is crucial as carbon monoxide is a silent and potentially deadly gas.
Safety Notification
The safety light on the generator will notify the user when it has been shut down due to a carbon monoxide build – up. This alerts the user to a potential problem that needs to be addressed.
Industry Leadership
Honda is the first generator line to meet the new ANSI standard, which requires a CO sensor in every generator by the end of 2020. To signify the inclusion of the CO – MINDER feature, all traditional model numbers now have a “G” at the end. For example, the EU3000S1 has been changed to EU3000S1AG. Note that for the remainder of 2020, you may still find generators with and without the CO – MINDER feature as dealers clear old stock. And as expected, there is a slight price increase for the newer models, which might lead some to opt for the traditional units they’ve used in the past.
Bluetooth Generator Remote Controls: Convenience at Your Fingertips
App Functionality
The ‘Honda My Generator’ Bluetooth app is a convenient addition. It works on both iPhone and Android devices and can connect to several Honda Generators, such as the EU2200iTAG, EU2200iTAG1 Companion, EU7000i, and EM6500SX, with more models to be added soon.
Remote Operations
The app allows for remote monitoring and stopping of the generator. For generators equipped with electric start, like the EM6500 and EU7000, the app can even remotely start the unit. This is especially useful during bad weather, eliminating the need to run outside constantly to check on the generator.
Let Their Powers Combine: Honda Inverter Generators
Parallel Operation
One of the standout features of Honda Inverter Generators is their ability to be paired together using Honda Parallel Cable Kits. Similar EU series units can be combined to provide double the watt power and increased AMP output options. For example, when two EU2200i generators are paired, with one being the “Companion” model, they can provide a 30AMP twist lock with a peak output of 4,400 watts. This is sufficient for a modest home backup system on a manual transfer switch, offering essential power for 3 to 8+ hours.
Compact and Versatile
Honda Inverter Generators are not only powerful but also incredibly versatile. They are compact, weighing less than 50 lbs each, and are extremely quiet. You can easily take one on a jobsite, camping, or tailgating. Now, with the addition of CO – MINDER and Bluetooth, they offer even more value.
Choosing the Right Generator
There is no one – size – fits – all generator. Honda offers a wide range of options, from compact units to large powerhouses, to meet various needs. While Honda generators come with a premium price tag, there are cheaper alternatives available. However, considering the reliability and importance of a generator for powering a jobsite or backing up a home during a power outage, the investment in a Honda generator is often worth it. These units can go months without maintenance and are still expected to work flawlessly.
