OK TEDI Mining Limited (OTML) has reached a new milestone by commissioning and deploying its first-ever reverse circulation (RC) drill rig, according to James Bu, manager of mine technical services.
Bu said the RC drill rig began operations last month. He noted that the successful introduction of this rig by the mine geology and grade control (MGGC) team, alongside the mine technical services department, marks a significant step forward in improving the accuracy and efficiency of geological data collection.
“This advancement will directly support better short-term and long-term mine planning,” Bu explained. “It will allow for more strategic decisions in ore extraction.”
He added that the investment shows OTML’s commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
“The RC drill rig will play a key role with our MGGC team in optimizing mining processes and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our operations,” Bu said.
The idea of using an RC drill to fill gaps in the resource model and produce high-confidence planning outputs started in 2017. However, the program gained momentum only in 2023, when OTML’s executive leadership recognized its value and decided to invest in the RC drill rig and revive the RC drilling program.
