Voltpost, a startup that converts existing lampposts into electric vehicle chargers, has launched its first public charging site in Oak Park, Illinois. Installed curbside in partnership with the Park District of Oak Park and utility ComEd, the charger offers convenient and affordable EV access right in the neighborhood.
Instead of constructing new stations, Voltpost retrofits lampposts with a modular Level 2 charging platform. This approach reduces construction needs, lowers costs, and allows installation in minutes. The chargers are managed through a mobile app and designed for public spaces such as curbs and parking lots, as well as private areas like university campuses and apartment complexes.
Jeffrey Prosserman, Voltpost CEO and cofounder, said, “The deployment in Oak Park will expand EV charging access for the local community and accelerate the shift to sustainable transportation. This builds on our efforts in New York and Michigan and moves us closer to nationwide expansion.”
Voltpost highlights its method as more sustainable and equitable by using existing infrastructure and increasing charging options for those without private driveways or garages.
