Taiwan to Adjust Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Fees Starting July

by Harry

The Ministry of the Environment has announced plans to revise lithium-ion battery recycling fees, with the new regulations set to take effect in July.

Under the amended rules, businesses that submit and receive approval for a self-built recycling chain plan may qualify for discounts of up to 87%. The goal is to promote sustainable recycling practices while minimizing environmental harm, according to a report by CNA.

Lithium-ion batteries—commonly found in mobile phones, electric vehicles, and portable electronics—contain valuable metals like cobalt, manganese, and nickel. Proper recycling not only prevents pollution but also reduces the need for mining, the Taiwan Lithium Battery Resources Industry Association emphasized.

The updated fee structure is part of a broader strategy to encourage innovation and responsibility in battery waste management.
