The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has implemented a significant hike in electric vehicle (EV) charging rates at its public charging stations during peak hours from 4 PM to 9 AM. The new rates nearly double previous charges and now exceed prices at private charging stations.
This change follows a directive from India’s Ministry of Power to encourage EV charging during daytime (9 AM to 4 PM) by lowering rates to 70% of normal charges, while increasing night and peak hour rates to 130% to reduce strain on the grid.
Under the updated pricing, consumers will pay an additional ₹4.13 per unit for fast charging during daytime and ₹12.07 per unit from 4 PM to 9 AM. Meanwhile, slow charging rates during daytime have been slightly reduced to offer some relief.
