The Caltex Gladstone Road station in Gisborne has joined the growing Plug and Save EV fast charging network, offering drivers a 160kW output EV charger with simple tap-and-pay functionality.
Unlike many EV chargers that require users to create accounts, download apps, or carry charging fobs, this unit allows drivers to pay via EFTPOS or credit cards using payWave—just like any fuel or grocery purchase.
Station owner Virinder Kumar, who took over the site at 401 Gladstone Road five years ago, has consistently modernized the business to meet evolving customer needs. The addition of the fast charger reflects the increasing number of EVs arriving in the region and aligns with the station’s commitment to future-proofing its services.
“We want to make EV charging as easy and convenient as possible,” Caltex stated. “With Plug and Save’s smart technology, there’s no need for costly infrastructure or complicated processes—just plug in, pay, and charge.”
In addition to EV charging, the Gisborne Caltex station continues to offer a variety of amenities, including a Softwash carwash, trailer hire, and a well-stocked convenience store with snacks, sandwiches, pies, and coffee—making it a one-stop hub for locals and travelers alike.
