New South Wales is speeding up the rollout of electric vehicle (EV) chargers, with the state government committing an additional $16.1 million to install 246 fast and ultra-fast charging stations across NSW.
This new funding round is supported by private sector investment, bringing the total to $41.2 million for expanding the network. All new chargers will be powered by renewable energy.
Increasing the number of chargers will help households and businesses lower their daily costs and move NSW closer to its legislated Net Zero emissions goals.
The fast and ultra-fast chargers will enable drivers to recharge their EVs much quicker than before—going from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in just 10 to 15 minutes.
The stations will also feature pull-through bays designed for EV drivers towing caravans, boats, or trailers. This feature aims to make charging easier for long-distance travelers.
“Making charging faster and eliminating range anxiety are key to getting more EVs on the road in NSW,” said Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Penny Sharpe.
“These charging stations will make it easier to charge EVs away from home, while also helping to reduce climate pollution.”
