Arlington has taken another step toward eliminating gas-powered leaf blowers. As of Sunday, June 1, residents are no longer allowed to use these devices.
This change is part of a bylaw passed by Town Meeting in 2022. The law aims to gradually phase out gas-powered leaf blowers in the town. The first phase began on March 15, 2023, and banned commercial use of the machines during certain seasons. That seasonal ban will remain in effect until Sunday, September 14.
The final phase of the law will take effect on March 15, 2026. At that point, both residential and commercial use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be completely banned.
Town officials say the ban is part of a larger effort to reduce noise and air pollution in the community.
