Ryobi has issued a recall of more than 113,000 24-inch cordless hedge trimmers sold in the US, with an additional 15,000 units recalled in Canada, following reports that the trimmer blades can activate if either the safety or trigger control is pressed alone, rather than requiring both together. This defect poses a serious injury risk.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported 27 incidents of unexpected blade activation, resulting in 16 injuries, including severe lacerations.
The recalled trimmers were sold between March 2021 and January 2025 for $90 to $160 at Home Depot stores, Direct Tools Factory Outlet, and their online platforms.
TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is providing free replacement trimmers and prepaid shipping labels, with no proof of purchase required.
The company is also reaching out directly to known purchasers.
