South Orange’s annual ban on gas-powered leaf blowers will take effect on Thursday, May 1. The ban will remain in place until September 30.
As stated on the Village website, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers is prohibited during this period, starting at 12:01 a.m. on May 1 and ending at 11:59 p.m. on September 30 each year.
However, electric leaf blowers can still be used during the following hours:
Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The website encourages residents to inform their landscapers and groundskeepers about the ordinance. Violations of the ban may result in fines. Homeowners, property owners, homeowners’ associations, landscapers, and other individuals or businesses are all subject to penalties if they violate the rules.
