During an undercover police operation, thirteen out of fifteen businesses successfully stopped a young person from purchasing knives.
This was part of “Operation Sceptre,” a nationwide campaign by Essex Police aimed at reducing knife crime.

Officers from Maldon’s town team worked alongside Maldon District Council’s community safety team and a young volunteer to test compliance with the “Challenge 25” policy. This policy requires retailers to verify age before selling knives, vapes, alcohol, and tobacco.
